National Volume Pedal?

Post by Michael Miyahara »

Hey there,

First time posting. My apologies if this is there wrong section…brand new steel player. I inherited a few things from a family member, an old Gibson EH-150 lap steel and amp (amp doesn’t work), an Electromuse lap steel that looks like a boat oar, a handful of national fingerpicks, and a national volume pedal.

I purchased a Show Pro Early Bird and have been working through the Franklin Method (boy was I surprised when he mentioned the rarity of these old national fingerpicks!)

But so far I can find nothing on this old volume pedal-If it’s worth trying to restore and use or just keep cased up in the house.

Would anyone be able to help me identify and maybe recommend if it’s worth trying to restore and use for daily playing?

Thanks!

Thats a cool and probably pretty rare volume pedal.. I am sure it can be cleaned up and used, a new pot installed etc.. However, it also looks pretty high and clunky, and I am sure its not optimal for use with a modern pedal steel.. It depends on what you want really.. Clean it up and keep it to use with those vintage lap guitars just because "vintage",, or sell it to someone that collects old National guitars, amps, etc, and use the money to buy a new sleek lightweight pedal thats more suitable to a modern pedal steel setup.
I'm over the hill and hittin'rocks on the way down!

no gear list for me.. you don't have the time......

Early 1940s. What restoration does it need? It should be able to work just fine, though I agree it may need a new pot after all this time.
