Fessenden SD-10, 3x5

Post by John Frankel »

Like to get some information regarding this pedal steel. When I open the case and see the underneath of the pedal steel can someone tell from left to right the knee levers are. There are 4 verticals and 1 horizontal, how are they lettered?

What you call horizontal is actually called a "vertical" lever. You push it up (vertically) up towards the guitar. The others are just referred to as knee levers. There is no standard to naming them. The lever that raises strings 4 & 8 from E to F is called the "F" lever. The lever that lowers string 4 & 8 to D# is often called the "D" lever, although some call it the "E" lever.

Paragraph above assumes an E9 tuning.

The best way to tell what the levers do is to pick strings one by one, press the lever, and see if it raises or lowers the string and to what (half step or whole step). That is actually the best way for you to become knowledgeable about what they do,
Carter D10 8p/7k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup, Regal RD40 Dobro (D tuning), Recording King Professional Dobro (G tuning), NV400, NV112, Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open G slide and regular G tuning guitar) .

Playing for 55 years and still counting.
